The FIG and IOC thought they had addressed the issue at the start of the games. The FIG said a passport is the “accepted proof of a gymnast’s eligibility,” and that China’s gymnasts presented ones that show they are age eligible. The IOC also checked the girls’ passports and deemed them valid before the games.

  4. Asians really look very young compared to whites. Whites tend to old early and become fat. Look at Japanese gymnasts. They look like 13 to Americans but they're 16. Asians are just lucky to look young and fresh.

  5. The Chinese Government issued the passports, the same government that entered children in the competition.  No Proof...didn't you see her, if she was six I would be surprised.  Most people consider exploiting children offensive; why are you looking the other way if not condoning it!

  6. You have to actually look to come to a real conclusion.  They entered events with their "other" birth dates in the past.  How odd that they had the wrong birthday for 14 or so years then magically the year the Olympics rolls around they end up being 16.

    Gymnastics Investigation Continues

By NANCY ARMOUR • AP National Writer • August 23, 2008

BEIJING (AP) _ The competition long over and with the Olympics about to end, China's gold medal women's gymnastics team was still awaiting one final ruling from the judges.

Officials from the International Gymnastics Federation pored over documents Saturday in hopes of putting to rest, once and for all, persistent questions about the ages of all but one member of the six-person team. Chinese gymnastics officials handed over passports, ID cards and family residence permits after the FIG — at the request of the International Olympic Committee — asked for additional documentation on He Kexin, Yang Yilin, Jiang Yuyuan, Deng Linlin and Li Shanshan.

"All information is in Chinese and the (federation) is making as thorough analysis as possible of the papers," the FIG said in a statement. "This process may take some time, but in due course, the FIG will make a full report of our findings to the International Olympic Committee."

There is no deadline for the investigation.

  8. you may doubt whether they have fake passports.

the IOC can't have anything to say when it's stated black and white in their passports as long as their passports are valid. they cannot call for an investigation into "Fake" passports becos it's not within their power.

  9. USA, Britain, Australia, Russia and Romania will redeem themselves in London

    Don't worry.
