I have 2 computers hooked up to a router. If I go to public community forum, with 2 different names and 2 different computer. Could the admin detect me by the IP Address? is my IP address for both computer going to be the same?

  1. Yes because the ip address shown to website is the ip address assigned to you by Internet Service Provider.


  2. Each computer has a LOCAL IP address assigned by your router, but a SINGLE PUBLIC IP address assigned by your ISP on the other side of the router.

    The router uses NAT (Network Address Translation) to SHARE the single IP address between ALL your PC's on YOUR side of the router!

    So, YES, they can tell you are at the same PUBLIC IP address...

    Use the ipconfig command to view your LOCAL IP address...

    Logon to your router or go to a site like:

    http://whatismyipaddress.com  to view your PUBLIC IP...

    2 computers, using the internet will have the same IP when browsing websites.
