  1. They both have the same IP address... make sure you are using DHCP..

on your desktop , go to the start button, go to RUN, then type   ipconfig/renew   and you'll get a new IP address...

  2. what isp are u using?

are u connecting via a wireless router?

basically if your connected on network then if 2 pcs have the same IP address u get this message

has someone got an xbox 360 and using ur internet connection??

if your wireless router has no password then they cud use

  3. Given that this seems to have popped up on a network that has been running for a while, I suspect you now have an unwanted guest on the network, and they're trying to use the same IP address your machine is using.  Here are some steps you can take to get rid of them.

1.FROM A COMPUTER CONNECTED TO THE ROUTER WITH AN ETHERNET CABLE ONLY, log into your router's admin pages from your browser.  (It's also a very good idea to leave that cable connected permanently to the router, if not to the computer, and turn off Wireless Router Administration.)

To get into the router's administration pages, enter its local IP address into your browser's address window.  See below for steps on how to find the IP address.

2.Find the page that controls wireless access to the admin pages and deactivate it.  Make it so someone has to be sitting next to the router with a computer and an Ethernet cable connecting them to control it.

3.Find the page in the router's admin pages that defines the SSID (essentially, the network name).

4.Change it (you'll have to change it in all your machines also) so it's not using the default for your router.

5.Turn off SSID Broadcasting so the router doesn't announce it to the world.  You're not running a hotspot and all your machines should know the SSID.

6.Find out how to install a network (WEP or WPA) key (not a login password) for your router, do so and set it up there and on all your machines.  I suggest copying-and-pasting it (there may be four) into a Notepad or Wordpad document so you can accurately copy-and-paste it to your machines.

That should throw any interlopers off and keep them from coming back.

Now for finding the router's IP address. This should work, but because the router's been hijacked, it may not. If it doesn't, try 192.168.1.1, 192.168.1.0, 192.168.1.2. Even better, research it from the router's documentation or the manufacturer's website from either a cabled-in machine, which doesn’t use the WEP key, or a machine on another network).

    1. Click on the Start button.

    2. Click Run...

    3. In the text box, type in

    cmd

    and press Enter.

    4. A black "DOS box" window will pop up. Type into it

    ipconfig /all

    and press Enter.

    5. A bunch of seeming gibberish will fill the screen. On the line next to "Default Gateway" your router's IP address should appear.

    Good luck.

  4. one of your computers is not set for 'automatically aquiring IP address' from the router

Lynksys routers have an ip of 192.168.1.1

each pc must have a different ip - but in the same range 192.168.1.x

    where 'x' is 2 - 254

in Control Panel, open Network connections, find 'wireless network connection'

right click, choose properties. Scroll to the bottom to find Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), select and press the properties button

Ensure the top option "Obtain an IP address automatically" is selected and the IP address fields are greyed out

Your pc will now obtain its ip address from the router,

    good luck
