IPC has selected twelve of the hottest Paralympic games to watch
Just a day before the tickets go on sale worldwide for the fourteenth Paralympic Games, the International Paralympic Day will be held in Trafalgar Square in London and will display different athletes in action. Moreover, the public
will get a firsthand look and feel of what the Paralympic games are all about. The summer Paralympic games will take place between 29 August and 9 September 2012 in London.
The IPC has selected twelve of the must watch events for the London 2012 Paralympic games so that the public can buy their tickets accordingly.
Their first preference is the women’s 100 meter butterfly final S9 which will be held on the 30th of August 2012. South African Natalie du Toit is a Paralympic champion who has won this title ten times and is now looking
to bag seven gold medals in London. Moreover, she is faced with a tough competition from the freshly crowned European Champion, Spain’s 19-year-old swimming sensation, Sarai Gascon.
Next up is the Para-Cycling Individual Pursuit finals C2 which will be held on 31st of August. Jiri Jezek of the Czech Republic is the five-time Paralympic champion and will be adding more medals to his collection that
he has acquired over the last four Paralympic Games. However, fans should expect a number of British cyclists to put up a strong front against him.
The third best sport is the ten meter Shooting Competition with an air Rifle, the event is a Shooting Standing final R1 and will take place on the 31st of August 2011. A maestro of this competition is Sweden’s 45-year-old
Jonas Jacobsson and in the history of the sport there is only on other athlete who is bagged more gold medals than him. Nevertheless, this is Jacobsson’s first event in London at his ninth Paralympic Games.
At number four is Equestrian, it is an Individual Championship Test: Grade lb and Britain’s Lee Pearson has had a distinguished career that includes appearances at three Paralympic Games. Moreover, he has accomplished nine Paralympic
gold medals and this event will mark his first likelihood of securing an individual gold.
Athletics is something that is enjoyed by all and the men’s 5,000 meter final T54 is a wheelchair racing category. It is is known to be the most competitive sport in Paralympics and this event will mark the first clash between
hometown hero David Weir and his Swiss rival Marcel Hug. Currently Weir is the world champion at this length, while, Hug is the world-record holder for all distances from 800 meters through to 10,000 meters.
The remaining sports include; Rowing, Powerlifting - men’s +100kg final, in Athletics it is the men’s 100 meter final T44, Wheelchair Tennis boasts women’s singles gold-medal match with the likes of Dutch Esther Vergeerin, who
has not lost her last 420 matches.
In addition, men’s gold-medal match of the Wheelchair Basketball is a must, along with, at number eleven Football 5-a-Side gold-medal match which is due to take place on the 8th of September. Last but not the least,
is the final clash for the gold-medal in Wheelchair Rugby.
