In the eagerly anticipated opening match of the Indian Premier League T20 Tournament, the Chennai Super Kings took on the Kolkata http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Knight-c71599 Riders at the MA Chidamabram Stadium in Chepauk, Chennai.
After winning the toss the Chennai Super Kings opted to make use of the conditions in the first innings and sent the Knight Riders out to field.
In an eventful first over, Kolkata Knight Rider bowler Iqbal Abdullah was hit for four on the second last delivery by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Murali-Vijay-c78035 before he sent the Super King batsman back to the pavilion in the next ball.
Vijay did not choose the best of shots as he hit the ball straight to the mid on fielder Rajat Bhatia, who made no mistake with the catch. The first over had brought with it the tournament's first boundary as well as its first wicket.
Indian star Suresh Raina was the next man in for the Super Kings as he made his mark when he smashed fellow Indian Yusuf Pathan for four on the leg side, before taking a single in the next ball.
Iqbal Abdullah’s hard work in the first five balls of the next over went to waste when he was hit for four by Srikkanth Anirudha for a boundary. The Chennai Super Kings were doing well and had the run rate steady around the six runs per over mark.
Yusuf Pathan had reason to be frustrated in the fourth over but only with himself as he missed an opportunity to send Anirudha packing when he dropped a catch on his own delivery.
It was time for a bowling change as Lakshmipathy Balaji was handed the ball. Smashed for a four by Raina on the second ball of the over, Balaji was unlucky when Yusuf Pathan missed the simplest of catches on the fifth delivery of the over. Raina lucky was
to escape that as he took advantage of the dropped catch with a single.
Jacques Kallis was the next bowling change for the Kolkata Knight Riders though it was not the best of starts for him as Anirudha treated him to good old fashioned hammering. In an over that cost his side 13 runs, Kallis was hit for three fours by the batsman
who seemed to have won the battle of wits against the South African.
The IPL had its first six of the tournament when Knight Rider Sarabjit Ladda’s delivery cleared the ropes after Anirudha sent the ball flying over the long odd boundary. The Super Kings were flying by this point at 8.14 runs per over.
