IPL- Deccan Chargers v Kolkata http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Knight-c71599 Riders - Chargers fall short despite Shikhar Dhawan half-century – Part 2
Needing 102 runs with 60 deliveries remaining the Deccan Chargers’ batting pair of Cameron White and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shikhar-Dhawan-c90019 looked to shift up a gear and pick up the pace, as Rajat Bhatia ran in to bowl the 11th over of the match.
Bhatia struck as early as the first delivery when a shrewd change of pace was not picked up by Cameron White, who could do nothing when he heard the sound of the ball hitting the stumps signaling that the Deccan Charger batsman was to make his way back to
the pavilion.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Daniel-Christian-c1308 was the next man in and he ought not to have bothered as Bhatia had him trapped leg before wicket just three deliveries later. Christian spent more time making his way to and from the pitch than he did batting on it.
Ravi Teja found himself needing to put in a solid performance if the Chargers were to get anything out of the match. Teja put his best foot forward and smashed Yusuf Pathan for a four to get his innings going.
Bhatia and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jaidev-Unadkat-c1626 found themselves on the wrong side of being lucky when the latter took a brilliant catch only to have it overruled for a six when he tripped and fell over the boundary.
Yusuf Pathan bowled a tidy 14th over before http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Iqbal-Abdulla-c1596 found himself on the receiving end of two boundaries in an over that earned the Chargers a crucial 12 runs.
11 runs followed in the next over when Lakshmipathy Balaji was reintroduced into the bowling attack but it did little to bring the asking rate of 12.75 runs per over any lower.
Dhawan was rewarded for his persistence and perseverance when he took a double off Brett Lee’s over to reach his half century. The batsman had been the only shining light in an otherwise lacking batting performance and more of the same was needed from him
if his side wanted to retain any hope of a win.
Teja had been going strong yet Lee put a halt to his innings on 30 runs when he beat the batsman with nothing put sheer pace. Teja was dismissed after facing 22 deliveries with the words ‘b http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lee-c72382’ next to his name on the scorecard.
Any hope the Deccan Chargers had of winning suffered another major blow when in the 18th over Jacques Kallis beat Dhawan all ends up and had the batsman clean bowled on 54 runs.
The last two overs were academic as the match had been decided after Dhawan’s wicket and the Chargers ended up falling 20 runs short of the 170 run target handing the Kolkata Knight Riders a vital two points.
