IPL Governing Council to conduct follow-up meeting for IPL5 – Cricket News Update
Led by chairman Rajiv Shukla, the Indian Premier League’s Governing Council is due to meet today for the purpose of over-viewing the recently wrapped up 5th edition of the tournament.
“It's a normal meeting, a follow-up of the tournament,” confirmed Ratnkar Shetty, the Cricket Board's Chief Administrative Officer.
The Board's Technical Committee will hold a meeting prior to the Governing Council’s session, in order to go over the suggestions offered at the at the captains' and coaches' meeting held in March this year, when suggestions were put forth for the possible
improvements that could be made in the domestic cricket circuit.
The IPL season 5 was touted as the most successful edition for the tournament to date, but was also arguably the most controversy-ridden.
The tournament received a growing reputation for notoriety after co-owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders’ franchise, and Bollywood celebrity, Shah Rukh http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820, after
which management contemplated issuing a ban on the superstar.
The troubling incidents continued with the emergence of a molestation case, with Royal Challengers Bangalore batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Luke-Pomersbach-c1856 accused of having made inappropriate advances towards a woman and physically assaulted her fiancé when he protested against
the Aussie cricketer’s behaviour. Pomersbach was arrested but later released, and the woman later in question dropped all charges against the accused, bringing the unsavoury incident to an end.
However, the most shocking was the accusations of corruption and spot-fixing which hit the IPL after a sting operation carried out by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 TV revealed that black money transactions and illegal under-the-table dealings were rampant in the tournament.
Five uncapped players who were named in the operation - http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abhinav-Bali-c41754 - were immediately suspended by the BCCI until further
notice, and the board ordered an immediate inquiry into the incident.

However, Shetty revealed that the report was not on the agenda for discussion at the Governing Council’s meeting.
