Everyone must have seen the laptops set upon tables, in the team dug-outs; during the IPL matches. What are they supposed to be used for?

  1. Greedy people adding up the money they make. Or another explanation could be, the coaches/managers putting all the fors & againsts of their players, places in which they can improve, players to drop/get next year, & the stats of the matches. Go with whichever version you like best.

  2. the laptops are used to store the match analysis. how particular bowler bowl. how batsman bat, shortcomings in batting bowling & fielding for home & opponant team. The data is then used to plan the strategies for the upcoming matches.

  3. Yeah it's exactly what KooKee said. That is why the players use them, or at least should be using them!

Just to add to his answer though, I think some of the coaches use them for analysis too. They normally have a type of software called Silicon Coach, or just something similar to that, which is a video-based motion analysis system for studying techniques. They use it because sometimes something is slightly wrong with the players technique which isn't visible to the naked eye, so this technology helps to address the problem and then the coach and player can work together later on after the game to rectify it.

Although I have heard that some of the England players do in fact use the laptops to go on facebook instead! lol  :)

  4. Lap YTops are being used by the Coaches in all forms of cricket when the play is going on to assess the strength and weakness of their own players as well as of the players from the opposite team and to work out strategies.

  5. It doesnt happen just in the IPL! Teams have laptops in the pavillion all around the world (in test cricket and domestic cricket)

The laptops primary function is to assess the play that has been going on before. So if a batsmen wants to see what he did wrong to miss a straight ball then he can go to the laptop and see how his technique failed him. Bowlers also use laptops to access the wickets they took and the chances they missed. So basically a laptop is used mostly to watch quick clips of the action going on, on the field.

Laptops can also provide the players with statistical information such as, how many overs they bowled before lunch!! How many balls they played and missed.

This is only what i heard, we dont actually see what the players or coaches are looking at so for all we know the players could be on y!a or youtube lol :)
