IPL Rajasthan Royals get another chance
Rajasthan Royals breathed a sigh of relief as the judge hearing the arbitration case between the team and the Board of Control for Cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 (BCCI) issued the franchise a stay order which will continue up to six weeks after a final order is passed.
The private proceedings went in favour of Rajasthan Royals, which means that they would be allowed to function as part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for that time.
An interim judge, Retired justice BN Srikrishna confirmed the judgement saying that the termination of the franchise from IPL is hereby stayed.
A statement from the Rajasthan Royals management said “This order means that the team can participate in season four of the IPL tourney”. They would also be taking part in the player’s auction which is scheduled to take place on January 8th and
9th next year.
The order also meant that the BCCI would be waiting till the final order to change any of the league’s rules.
Justice Srikrishna said in a statement that “there will be no interference with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rajasthan-c837 Royals exercising rights under the franchise agreement. They will be allowed to participate in the auction without any prejudice”.
Rajasthan Royals had been expelled from IPL by the BCCI on charges of violation of shareholding and ownership norms. They had also been accused of providing wrong information about the corporate structure of Jaipur IPL Cricket Private Limited.
Jaipur IPL Cricket chairman Ranjit Barthakur, who was present when the judgement was being passed in Guwahati, said that the “team management has started its preparations and player selections will start soon, we will work with full vigour now”.
However, the BCCI would seek to contest the decision by moving the court as a precautionary measure as this case could go anywhere now. They would probably appeal to the High Court and the matter could even reach the Supreme Court if the two parties decide
to appeal. These probable appeals would be independent regardless of the arbitration hearings.
The franchise’s spokesperson, Raghu Iyer, also told the media that the franchise and the team are welcoming the latest development and were thankful to the arbitrary judge, who showed “the speed and urgency needed to review the case in time”. He further
said that they are reviewing the case and looking forward to assess its full implications.
