IPL auction to be held in November 2010
The chief executive officer of the Indian Premier League, Sundar Raman has said that the auctions for the fourth edition of the tournament will be held in the month of November. He also added that the exact date will depend on how quickly can the three franchises,
Kochi, Punjab and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rajasthan-c837, respond to the show cause notices issued to them.
The Indian cricket board had earlier decided to issue the show-cause notices to the three franchises for different reasons. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833 and Rajasthan had exhibited financial irregularities while Kochi has yet to register its company. Raman said that the teams will
have up to two weeks to reply to the show cause notices.
Raman clarified that that the auction can only be held only after all the legal aspects of the tournament have been finalised. According to some of the news reports, the IPL could have its auction between the third and the final Test match between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 and the start of the ODI series; that is between November 24 and 28.
However, there is a talk amongst the franchises that the IPL cannot go ahead with reduced number of teams. This is because if any of the teams are shown the door, they are bound to take legal action against the IPL and that could go on for some time. According
to a website, a source said, “The IPL can't be held up because a court case is on.”
Raman also dismissed concerns about the absence of Lalit Modi from the IPL governing council. With the reconstituted governence, there are concerns that there is no-one amongst the current members who can be called the ‘face of the IPL’, but Raman said that
the only thing that counted was the quality of the cricket that was played.
Modi was first suspended from the governing council and finds himself out of the governing council after the reconstituted council was announced.
