IPL helped me press my claims for national selection, says http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rahul-Sharma-c83352 – Cricket News Update
The Pune Warriors’ India bowler, Rahul Sharma, on Wednesday thanked the cash-rich Indian Premier League for providing him a platform to prove his mettle as a leg-spinner.
The 25-year-old right-arm leg-spinner feels that the Twenty20 league brought him on the BCCI selectors’ radar.
The Jalandhar spinner, who made his IPL debut in 2010 for the Deccan Chargers, played as a Pune http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warriors-c861 India’s player last season, claiming 14 wickets in 11 matches at an average of 15.35. His impressive performances in the IPL4
earned him the selectors' nod, as he made his One Day International debut for India in December last year, in a match against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 at Indore.
He was also part of the squad that toured http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 earlier this year for the tri-nation Commonwealth Bank series.
“I have shown my talent and ability in the IPL. The selectors have also seen my talent in [the] IPL and have given me [the] opportunity to play for India,” said the Pune Warriors’ India spin bowler while speaking to media reporters
ahead of his side’s third IPL fixture against Kings XI Punjab on Thursday.
Sharma also praised the calm and cool Indian skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 for his guidance at the international level.
“MS [Dhoni] always tells me I am ‘a kind of bowler who can bowl well at any time’. I am performing well for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750,” said Sharma.
Though Sharma has been impressive for the Warriors in the fourth edition of the IPL, he did struggle for wickets during the recently concluded domestic season of India. Sharma attributed his poor form to the green Mohali wicket, where he played eight of
his first-class matches this season.
“I have played eight of my 12 first-class games at Mohali, which is a green top,” said the Jalandhar leggie. “I have spoken to world-class spinners like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Anil-Kumble-c44737, and they have agreed that a spinner can’t take too many wickets on that
kind of surface,” he added further.
Pune will play its next IPL fixture against Kings XI http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833 at Mohali on Thursday. Sharma agreed that the pressure of playing at home will be there, however, he hoped to perform well there.
To date, Sharma has played 22 IPL matches claiming 24 wickets at an average of 20.41.
