IPL is a great event, says Suresh Raina – Cricket News update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SK-Raina-c2539, the Indian middle-order batsman, is of the opinion that Indian Premier League (IPL) is the best tournament in the world as it gives an opportunity to the domestic players to play alongside international stars.
The left-handed batsman plays for Chennai Super Kings, who won the illustrious event twice and finished as the runner-ups as many times. Raina is the only player who has never missed a game for the Super Kings in the last five years.
IPL has made a significant impact on the game but there are two opinions about the effect of franchise cricket. Most of the analysts outside http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 believe that the money-rich tournament has hampering the sport at the international level, as it has shortened
the careers of many star-players.
The fifth season of the league finished last month with Kolkata Knight Riders lifting the trophy for the very first time. However, the season will be remembered more for all the controversies that surrounded it, which raised many question marks about IPL.
However, Raina has come out in support of the tournament and said that IPL is doing wonders for the local players, who work very hard throughout their life without getting much fame.
The 25-year-old said, "It's the most amazing tournament in the world among the ones I've played in. So many new players in the country have got a chance to play, they're making good money and there's opportunity to play alongside international players. What
more could you ask for!"
A number of former cricketers oppose IPL because of the extra glamour attached with it. Many leading Bollywood stars are associated with different franchises and according to some; it is a distraction for the players.
The Test cricketer believes that the presence of stars in the ground is a massive motivation for the players and Raina sees no harm with all the hype and entertainment involved in IPL.
"The celeb association is good for the game. Till now celebs used to support players, they would support http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chinnadupargea-Sachin-c50607. But now, they're supporting teams, which is a good thing. They are even getting to know the game better. Nothing wrong with that," Raina believes.
