IPL news: Players auction Ceremony expected to be postponed
The IPL player auction might be delayed for a couple of months because of the ongoing cases against the BCCI. Two of the barred franchises, namely, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833 have their cases against the Board being heard. If this is the case,
the auction ceremony might just end up clashing with the World Cup dates. The player auction which had been delayed once from November to January is most likely to witness another suspension this time.
“I don’t think this auction will happen before March” explained an IPL official to the media. The dispute between the Board and the two teams is not looking to settle at all. The IPL official also mentioned that because of the intensity of the dispute, an
unfavorable pronouncement against any party will result in the higher courts to be moved. This means that even if the verdict is announced before time, one of the parties will approach the higher court to file an appeal.
On October 10th, the board disqualified both the teams for a contention over Ownership Rights. Another charge that was put on both teams was that they failed to report the change of control in the shareholding pattern to the IPL council. It was after this
that both the franchises contacted the high court in Bombay, and therefore opted for mediation.
The Board chose Justice BN Srikrishna as a judge for both case, but it turns out that the man caught the Board by surprise. In the case concerning Rajasthan Royals, the judge announced that the Board had enough knowledge of the change in control. Not only
this, but he allowed the IPL expelled team to have a six weeks allowance in terms of operation. Thus the expulsion order was suspended and the RR was permitted to exercise their rights under the franchise agreement.
According to the IPL sources, the court is not going to decide the fate of the two teams before December 15 at least, which means that things will linger on in terms of the auction. If the auction date clashes with the World Cup, which is supposed to start
on February the 18th in the sub-continent, then it will become difficult for the players to present them for the process. However, this is what seems to be evident as far as the proceedings are concerned. The Board is in a state of confusion whereas
the two teams look relax and await judgment, hoping for the best.
