There has been talk though of IPL chiefs removing the salary cap altogether for future tournaments, but Ponting has urged them to keep it in place.

"We want good, competitive cricket with lots of international players playing good, close games against one another. If they go ahead with no salary cap, a lot of that might go out the window." Ponting.

I stick by the whole thing about moeny isn't everything and IPL is showing the ceommercilized world of cricket. But I have to agree with ponting here.

If theres no money in it for the players...i don't think players are going to make an effort to play for the IPL. These players are under a lot of stress and have hectic schedules to keep up with...if theres no money i don't think they're going to find the time.

  1. I will just go back & follow ICL then.

  2. If there is no money, players simply place causes to avoid the game.

  3. I agree with Ponting, but I can see where IPL are coming from, the same old story of greed & too much money. What a pity they didn't put some of that money towards helping the needy in their country.

  4. Yes, Ponting is right.

Also, they should increase the amount they are paying. These salaries are nothing when compared to other sports.

  5. no money no play, the only players will be the 2nd rate indians who cant make it into the national squad.  also all those aussies who said they'd rather play for australia than ipl where the money is, is a liar yeh gilchrist....total gayness

  6. There is some trick in it actually. By removing the cap or 5 Crores, owners can pay off those players for the 3 years and kick them out. Those that are not performing.

Then with additional money, they can bring in fresh players. Something like that.

Ponting may be worried he will not be recalled. Like KKR has offered a huge sum to New Zealand for Mc Cullum. It is all about performance. There may be many they do not want.

I heard an interview of Lalit Modi clarifying. Did not pay a lot of attention so cannot give details. Owners will have to shove out millions. And if they do, it is their headache, not his, I guess.

But a lot of teams would like to infuse performing cricketers.
