IPL sends http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rajasthan-c837, Punjab packing out
The Indian Premier League Governing Council has taken a decision to axe the IPL teams of Kings XI http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833 and Rajasthan Royals from the next edition of the tournament. The reason for the termination has been described as`a busting of the rules surrounding
the shareholding and ownership regulations, which were threatening to "shake the very foundation of the tender process".
The Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) also announced that the IPL team of Kochi will be given an extension of ten days to get their house in order, appoint a CEO and resolve their differences if they wanted to be a part of the tournament in the next edition.
Earlier there was a buzz that the IPL council would send a notice to the two franchises of Punjab and Rajasthan asking them why action should not be taken against them. However, the notice was not sent and the governing council took an unprecedented step of
banning the two sides straight away.
The two franchises are now said to be exploring the various options. It is no doubt that they will be looking at legal options as well, but it is evident that both the sides think the decision was unfair. One of the co-owners of the Punjab team, and Bollywood
actress Preity Zinta said that she was shocked at hearing about their ouster. Punjab also said that they will look to settle the issue with the BCCI. Raj Kundra, one of the co-owners of the Rajasthan team said that the franchise was definitely looking at suing
the BCCI.
The BCCI chief, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shashank-Manohar-c89791, said that the decision was not related to the presence of former chairman Lalit Modi’s relatives as co-owners of the franchises.
Manohar also spoke the media and explained the axing. He said, "With regards to Rajasthan, the bid was given by a different bidder and the agreement was entered into with a different company. The shareholding pattern was different. The shares were transferred
into with different people without the permission of the governing council."
