IPL unwilling to allow FICA interference – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Timothy-Brian-Alexander-May-c93981, Chief Executive of the Federation of International Cricketers' Association (FICA), has claimed that his organisation has been sidelined and forced to perform a mere advisory function by the Indian Premier League management in regards to the contracts
and salaries of players involved.
Indian Premier League contracts state that 15% of players’ salaries are to be paid before April 1, 50% at the culmination of the tournament, 20% after the related Champions League T20 tournament, and the remaining 15% by December 1.
However, the payments of several players involved in the 2012 edition of the league continue to hang in the balance. The Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Deccan Chargers franchises have been particularly slow, and most of the players affiliated with the
two teams have yet to receive their salaries. May has revealed that both teams have declined to reply to his organisation’s queries in this regard.
“We try to become directly involved but we never receive any responses from the Indian Premier League, which is frustrating for all,” said May.
Unable to effect any changes in the situation, the FICA advised players to take up the matter with their home boards. However, May revealed that the correspondences from the national boards have also gone unanswered by the teams in question.
“The reality of the situation is we're sitting in the background advising the players on these particular issues. If they can't get addressed, we'll look into the matter in legal terms, how [we can] pursue these monies,” May said.
The Deccan Chargers have yet to pay their players, while most of the cricketers affiliated with the Royal Challengers Bangalore, including skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DL-Vettori-c1384, have yet to receive their first instalments. Recent rumours regarding the RCB owners, UB group,
have suggested that owner Vijay Mallya has been plagued by financial difficulties, and is considering selling the team after having accumulated debts of close to $1.3b.
Payment delays have featured as a seemingly inseparable part of T20 tournaments, with similar issues having emerged during the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 Premier League from such issues, by having
made it mandatory for franchises to provide bank guarantees for player salaries.
