The former Australian international, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Symonds-c44611 Sahara Stadium, Pune on Sunday, April 8, 2012.
The defeat on Sunday was Punjab’s second in as many games and this is something that is bothering Gilchrist. The Aussie has called for more effort from his teammates as IPL5 is far from over, and Punjab can still go a long way.
He urged his boys to put in extra hours in the nets and come out stronger as a unit, “We need to train hard and turn it around. We can go through a form slump in this kind of long tournament and our prime purpose is to arrest it and make a comeback.”
Gilchrist, the left-handed batsman who had inspired the Deccan Chargers to IPL glory in the second season, joined Punjab in the fourth season, and has high hopes attached with the squad which he believes is good enough to win the championship.
In the match played on Sunday, the Pune Warriors posted a competitive total of 166 runs for Punjab to chase. Punjab in reply could only manage 144 runs.
The hosts could have been restricted to a much lower total had it not been for the 19th over of the Pune innings which went for 27 runs.
When asked to reflect on the 22-run defeat against Pune, the wicket-keeper batsman said, “We gave away 30 runs too many, the ten minutes of madness towards the end of our bowling and bad calls towards the start of our batting cost us the game.”
Punjab team is owned by the Bollywood actress, Preity Zinta, and they will get a chance to avenge the defeat to Pune http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833 Cricket Association Stadium situated in Mohali, Chandigarh. It will take place on Thursday, April 14, 2012. A win will bring an end to the losing streak and it is something Gilchrist is looking forward to.
