IPL5: Andrew McDonald upbeat about Royal Challengers Bangalore chances – Cricket News Update

Andrew McDonald, the Australian cricketer who is playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore, is upbeat about his sides’ chances of making it to the second stage of the Indian Premier League (IPL5).

The all-rounder believes that there are still three places up for grabs, considering Delhi Daredevils will take one spot, as they have been a dominating side in the event so far.

McDonald held that RCB will never give up and will fight till the last moment for that place.

Sharing his views at a pre-match press conference at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, McDonald said, “It is a close competition this year. Anyone can beat anyone at any stage. Delhi Daredevils stand out but the rest of the teams are fighting
for the three spots.”

McDonald further said that winning four games out of the remaining six will be enough for RCB to secure a place in the play-offs.

RCB, currently placed at seventh, will lock horns with the bottom ranked team, the Deccan Chargers. The match will take place on Sunday, May 6 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Chargers have had their worst season ever, winning only two games from 10 played. Deccan will miss the services of their all-rounder Jean Paul Duminy, as the South African, is not fit to play.

However, McDonald knows that even with a depleted side, Deccan pose real threat to RCB’s cause.

Advising Bangalore to watch out for Deccan Chargers, McDonald said, “Obviously tomorrow is a big game. Deccan is a good opposition and have struck form of late. They may take few teams down and we have to look out for that.”

RCB is one of the biggest spenders in the cash rich league. They have a vast range of foreign players to choose from. In IPL, any franchise can play a maximum of four foreign players in a match.

However, for Bangalore three spots have already been occupied by Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers and skipper Daniel Vettori. The fight for fourth place is between Sri Lanka’s Tillakaratne Dilshan and McDonald.

The Australian is not sure about his place in the side and has left it for the management to decide who they’ll play or not.

McDonald said, “Team selection is left to the team management. I am not sure whether Dilshan or I will play tomorrow.”
