IPL5: Being overlooked for three IPL editions made Das more determined – Cricket News Update
The lower-order Kolkata Knight Riders batsman, Debabrata Das, has said that being overlooked for three IPL editions, after the inaugural season was a blessing in disguise, as the gap made him a more determined and mentally tougher player.
The 25-year-old Bengal-born right-handed batsman played for King Khan’s Kolkata Knight Riders in the inaugural IPL edition in 2008. However, he failed to make the cut for the next three seasons before being recalled into the squad in the ongoing fifth instalment
of the cash-rich league.
Das said that the gap helped him assess his game and make a comeback as an improved batsman.
“It was a blessing in disguise that I did not play in the next three editions of the IPL,” said the right-handed batsman during a media encounter in Kolkata. “If I had kept on playing, I wouldn’t have been this hungry. I think I needed the gap to assess
my game. It made me more determined and mentally tougher for future challenges. I used to practice hard at nets,” Debabrata added.
Though the right-hander has failed to score big runs in the latest edition so far, he has made a name for himself as a potential  finisher. In the eight games played for KKR this season, the Bengal batsman has steered the Knight Riders to victory on more
than one occasion.
In Kolkata’s last match against defending champions Chennai Super Kings, at the latter’s backyard on Monday, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Debabrata-Das-c1353 showed nerves in the final moments of the game, scoring 11 runs off just four balls as KKR chased down a modest 139-run total with
five wickets and two balls to spare.
Kolkata Knight Riders' skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/G-Gambhir-c1447, was adjudged the Man of the Match for his hefty 63-run knock, but the opener took Das to the stage and announced to share the award with him.
The little-known http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bengal-c771 batsman said that it was nice gesture on Gauti’s part.
“I was completely taken by surprise when he said that he wanted to share the Man of the Match trophy. It was a very nice gesture on the part of the captain,” said Debabrata.
