IPL5: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 Daredevils suffer Chris Gayle’s wrath – Cricket News Update
Indian Premier League's (IPL5) table-toppers, Delhi Daredevils, surrendered to Chris Gayle’s barbaric hitting, as Royal Challengers Bangalore won the 67th game of the tournament by 21 runs on Thursday, May 17, 2012.
Gayle, along with his skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Kohli-c2737 (73), powered RCB to a mammoth total of 215 runs at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium. The mighty West Indian clobbered 13 sixes and 7 fours in his 128-run innings.
Daredevils gave a solid response to Bangalore’s onslaught; however, the absence of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Sehwag-c2739, DD's regular skipper, was felt as the hosts fell 21 runs short of the required target
Gayle was handed the Player of the Match award and thanked his skipper for staying with him till the end.
He said, “Thanks to Virat Kohli for his support at the other end.”
The left-hander, when asked how he manages to clear the boundary with minimum of hustle, said that the key to his successful six hitting lies in his body balance. Gayle admitted that flat deck, such as the one at Feroz Shah Kotla
also helps him, as the ball comes on to the bat and there is no uneven bounce.
“The secret behind those sixes was good balance and it helps to have a pitch where the ball comes up to the bat. Hope I continue like this in the tournament,” said the opening batman.
Gayle, who’s 62-ball 128 kept RCB’s hope of advancing to the play-offs alive, has altered his batting stance a little and this seems to have done wonders for the batsman.
About his batting stance, Gayle said, “It's natural, trying not to move around. A couple of innings have me moving around which did not help.”
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DPMD-Jayawardene-c1397, stand-in skipper of Daredevils, was stunned by Gayle’s blitz. The Sri Lankan international held that containing a player of Gayle’s calibre on a small ground is next to impossible, especially with the kind of
form he is in.
Jayawardene said, “He is in tremendous form, especially on a small ground like this. It was always going to be difficult to contain him. Still we could have chase it down. Unfortunately we could not.”
