Taylor’s departure in the 15th over, off Pankaj Singh, saw the Daredevils at 104 for 4, but http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Naman-Ojha-c2057 (11) joined forces for a 5th wicket partnership which added 21 runs to the total and was
followed by a 23-run stand between Nagar and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ajit-Agarkar-c972 (0) enabled
the Daredevils to post a total of 152 by the end of 20 overs.
Pankaj Singh and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kevon-Cooper-c71194 did not manage to claim any scalps, he was fairly effective in restricting the run flow, conceding only 19 in 4 overs.
The Royals got off to a solid start, courtesy the most consistent opening pairing in the current IPL season so far – Rahul Dravid (40) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ajinkya-Rahane-c970 (who scored an unbeaten 84). Both teamed up to post a total of 99 runs on the board, but the skipper
was dismissed by Pathan in the 14th over, after which Rahane was joined by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Brad-Hodge-c1184 (22).
The two established a 42-run stand, and the Royals looked to be safely on the way to victory. By the 19th over they needed 15 runs from 12 balls, but a crucial over by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/M-Morkel-c73528 turned the entire game around.
The South African pacer delivered one yorker after another, refusing to concede more than 3 runs, and ended the over with Hodge’s dismissal, leaving the Royals needing 12 runs off the last over.
Morkel’s performance was followed up by Umesh Yadav’s, who wrapped up the game for the Daredevils. Rahane managed a six off Yadav’s fourth delivery and two runs off the next, but his efforts were in vain as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/OA-Shah-c2134 (1) found himself run out on the last
ball, with the Royals at 151 – one run away from the target.
The bowling attack, spearheaded by Morkel (4-0-26-1) and supported by Yadav (4-0-35-0) and Pathan (4-0-27-1) enabled Sehwag’s team to retain the top spot on the league points table, as did the skipper’s 63 off 39, which won him the Player of the Match award.
The two teams are due to clash once again on May 1 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, where the Daredevils will be looking to retain their top spot, while the Royals attempt to improve their current ranking at number 6.
