IPL5: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SE-Marsh-c2470 anchor Kings XI Punjab home – Cricket News Update
Kings XI Punjab have opened their IPL5 account with a 7 wicket win over the Pune Warriors in the 14th match of the tournament, played at the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833 Cricket Association Stadium, Mohali on Thursday, April 12, 2012.
Dimitri Mascarenhas, the English cricketer, produced a gem of a spell to restrict Pune http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warriors-c861 to a mediocre total of 115 runs. The Englishman, who made the most of the favourable conditions, notched up five wickets, which included the prized scalp of Sourav
Ganguly, while conceding just 25 runs from his spell.
In the batting department, Australian international Shaun Marsh starred with an unbeaten knock of 64 runs, as Punjab chased down the total in 17.4 overs and lost just three wickets in the process.
The two overseas players, Mascarenhas and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Simon-James-Marshall-c90362, were both in contention for the player of the match award. However, it was the former who bagged the honours.
Thanking the crowd for their overzealous support, Mascarenhas said, “I love playing in the IPL, the crowds are passionate. This is the first time I got a surface like this in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750. We had two losses, but hopefully we play really well in the next few matches.”
Kings XI Punjab started their IPL5 campaign with back to back defeats. The game on Thursday was Punjab’s first match at home and Marsh was thrilled to end the losing streak. The left-handed batsman hopes that the win over Pune jumpstarts the Punjab campaign.
He said, “It was nice to get a good win, hope it can kickstart something. Definitely feels nice to play with freedom, the boys have trained really hard and we are happy with a win.”
Ganguly, the skipper of the Pune Warriors rued the loss. The Prince of Calcutta held that things could have ended differently had his side posted a score in excess of 140. The former Indian has faith in his bowling attack and wants the batsmen to play with
more responsibility.
He said, “It was an important toss. 140 would have been a good total. We needed to play smart cricket, but got all out in 19 overs. We have a very good bowling attack, if we score 160, it will be difficult for the opponents.”
