IPL5: Luck not an excuse for Deccan Chargers' poor show, concedes Kumar Sangakkara – Cricket News Update
The skipper of Deccan Chargers, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KC-Sangakkara-c1779, on Saturday confessed that they performed poorly in the ongoing season of Indian Premier League (IPL5).
The Lankan international said that luck cannot be used as an excuse for the ten defeats Chargers have endured in the tournament. Sangakkara believes that Deccan side collectively failed as a unit; the team did not put enough effort.
“Its not only about luck, if you do the right things, you need less luck than you would if you are not doing that well. I think, the harder you work, the better you do... (then) luck works for you. Sometimes luck can be an excuse,
but that's not something we are looking at for what could have gone wrong for us,” said the skipper of Deccan Chargers.
Sangakkara, the veteran of 325 ODI caps for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, also explained what exactly went wrong for Chargers in the cash rich tournament, as they linger at the bottom of the points table with just two wins from 13 games.
The 34-year-old termed fielding as the prime reason behind the team’s current position. Deccan Chargers were quite lethargic in the field, throughout the tournament. The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hyderabad-c792 based franchise dropped catches on a regular basis,
and it cost them a number of games.
Sangakkara was also not impressed with Deccan’s bowling; however, he seemed content with how the batters had performed in the event.
When asked whether his side has learned anything from this season of IPL, Sangakkara said, “We learnt quite a few lessons, especially about our fielding and our catching, which has let us down at big moments. It's also about making
sure we are up to the mark and focused in tight situations. I think we have been found wanting in those situations.”
Sangakkara and his men are scheduled to face Kings XI Punjab at Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, Mohali, on Sunday, May 13, 2012. The Lankan international knows the quality of the opposition and has therefore urged his players
to be at the top of their game, if they want to beat http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833.
