IPL5: Mahendra Singh Dhoni admits Chennai Super Kings were rusty in tournament opener – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028, the skipper of the Chennai Super Kings, admitted that his side was rusty in the opening game of the Indian Premier League season 5, which was played against the Mumbai Indians at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Wednesday, April
4, 2012.
A lot was expected from CSK, who are the two time defending champions. However, the hosts failed to put up a good show and lost the game by eight wickets.
According to Dhoni, CSK had a good start but they lagged in the death overs. He said, “We started well but we didn't do well in the last overs, so it was a rusty start for the tournament. We did well though with the bowling.”
Batting first, CSK posted 112 runs which the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians chased down in 17-overs while losing just two wickets in the process.
The Chennai skipper believes that the outcome of the match could have been different had his side scored in excess of 150.
“It is not a typical Chennai wicket. It is difficult to judge seeing how they chased,” said Dhoni. “If we would have scored 150-160 there approach would have been different but seeing if you ask me, may be would have thought 140-145 odd runs would have been
difficult.”
Dhoni lost the toss and his side were forced to bat. The wicket-keeper batsman held that the toss did not have much impact. MI skipper, Harbhajan Singh, begged to differ. For Singh winning the toss was crucial.
He said, “Well good game, it was a good toss to win, wicket was quite unpredictable, not the same wicket that we played earlier, all the boys played well.”
Harbhajan was also very happy with the fielding effort of his side. The off-spinner wants his players to maintain the same standards on the field throughout the tournament. Bhajji termed the run-out of Dhoni as the match turner. Had Dhoni stayed till the
end, CSK would have posted a difficult total for his side, claimed Harbhajan.
Chennai has a two-day rest before they go up against the Deccan Chargers at the Visakhapatnam. MI on the other hand face the Pune http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warriors-c861 on Friday, April 6.
