IPL5: Mumbai Indians break Kolkata Knight Riders’ winning streak courtesy http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RG-Sharma-c2309 – Cricket News Update
Kolkata Knight Riders’ six match winning streak came to an end on Saturday, May 12, 2012 as they went down by 27 runs in the 58th match of the Indian Premier League played against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians, at the Eden Gardens.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 born cricketer, Rohit Sharma, played an exhilarating knock of 109 runs that saw Mumbai Indians to a staggering total of 182 for the loss of one wicket.
The Knight Riders gave it their all but the massive target, backed by Mumbai Indians’ strong bowling unit, proved too much for the hosts, who were restricted to 155 for the loss of four wickets.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/G-Gambhir-c1447, skipper Kolkata Knight Riders, was the first one to acknowledge Sharma’s special knock. The left-hander said that words cannot define how well the 25-year-old played on Kolkata’s pitch.
“Getting a hundred on this wicket is very special. It would be an understatement to term it an excellent innings.  The way he batted was tremendous. All credit goes him to him. It was far better than what I can express,” said the
losing skipper.
Gambhir refused to put the blame of the defeat on Kolkata Knight Riders’ bowlers. The 30-year-old conceded that Mumbai Indians were able to post a bigger total than they had anticipated; however, he held that it was the 167-run
stand between Rohit and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/HH-Gibbs-c1549 that took the game away from KKR.
Gambhir said, “We always felt it was a good wicket. But 180 was a very good total. We were thinking of restricting them to 150-160. The bowling has been doing well and this was one of those off days. If someone plays such kind
of knocks, cannot do a lot. A lot of credit goes to Rohit and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gibbs-c60021, he built their partnership and took the game away from us.”
With the 27-run win Mumbai Indians move to third place on the IPL5 points table. KKR, despite the loss, are at second with 17 points from 13 games.
Kolkata will now host the reigning champions Chennai Super Kings on May 14, while MI, on the same day, will travel to Bangalore to face the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
