IPL5 - Pune Warriors vs Kolkata Knight Riders –  Match Recap

Riding on the strength of a superb all-round performance by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 Daredevils, as they claimed a 34-run
victory over the Pune Warriors at the Subrata http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Symonds-c44611 Sahara Stadium in Pune, on May 19.
Despite the lacklustre outings by skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BB-McCullum-c1129 managed to propel their side to a total of 136, which their bowlers promptly defended, with Shakib’s efforts being backed by a surprise contribution
by Yusuf Pathan.
The Knight Riders won the toss and chose to bat on a pitch which was fairly low and slow. McCullum (41) and Gambhir (10) opened the innings, but their stand was fleeting, lasting only until the 5th over, and yielding 21 runs before the skipper
was caught out by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/WD-Parnell-c2787.
Kallis proved similarly disappointing, managing a contribution of a mere 13 runs before he was sent back to the pavilion by Michael Clarke, leaving his team at 40 for 2 in the 9th over.
With Shakib (42) joining McCullum at the crease for a 67-run stand, the Knight Riders reached 50 painstakingly by the 12th over, but from there onwards the two batsmen shifted into overdrive, and the tourists found themselves at 107 by the 17th
over.  A respectable total appeared to be in sight, but the Warriors delivered a devastating blow in the later overs, with McCullum dismissal by Parnell followed by Shakib’s departure in the 18th over, courtesy http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bhuvneshwar-Kumar-c48045.
Last-over contributions by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/YK-Pathan-c2815 (15) got the visitors up to 136 by the end of 20 overs.
Chasing 137, the Warriors opened with wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Iqbal-Abdulla-c1596 in the 3rd over.
Yusuf Pathan, who has had an average run in the IPL5 so far, chipped in with two vital wickets – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warriors-c861 at
56 for 3.
Shakib picked up where Pathan left, off, dismissing skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Anustup-Majumdar-c1071 was the Bengali spinner’s next victim, and was stumped by McCullum, leaving the Warriors
at a precarious 86 for 5 by the 16th over.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sunil-Philip-Narine-c91869 and Lakshmipathy
Balaji, without adding anything significant to the Warriors’ total - http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ali-Murtaza-c997 (3) all put up an insipid show, and the 20 overs came to an end with the hosts cut off at 102.
Shakib was the most prominent bowler in the Knight Riders’ camp, and his 2 for 18, combined with his knock of 42 off 30, won him the Player of the Match award.
While the Warriors’ rounded off their disappointing IPL 5 run with their ninth consecutive defeat, the Knight Riders’ victory enabled them to fix their position at number 2 on the tournament points table, and won them the first qualifier match against table-toppers
Delhi Daredevils, scheduled to be played at the same venue on May 22.
