IPL5: Royal Challengers Bangalore still a potent threat believes Sourav Ganguly – Cricket News Update

Sourav Ganguly, the former Indian cricketer and skipper of the Pune Warriors, has refused to term his side as favourites for their next Indian Premier League fixture, which is against the Royal Challengers Bangalore on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at the M Chinnaswamy
Stadium, Bangalore.

Ganguly feels that RCB are still a potent threat, despite a slow start to their IPL5 campaign. The left-hander is aware of the class Bangalore have on their bench and for that very reason he considers the match on Tuesday to be an even fixture.

He said, “I don't think in this format anybody is a favourite. Tomorrow is a new day and could be different. RCB has some terrific players who can change things. But we are looking to fire tomorrow as well.”

Bangalore, after winning the opening game of the IPL, have suffered back-to-back defeats in their last three fixtures. RCB are placed at eight position on the points table, just above the Deccan Chargers who occupy the ninth position.

The Ganguly-led Pune Warriors on the other hand, have impressed everyone with their performances so far. The minnows have won three games out of the four. Warriors are placed third after wins over the Mumbai Indians, Kings XI Punjab and the defending champions
the Chennai Super Kings.

Ganguly is leading the Pune Warriors in IPL5 in place of regular skipper Yuvraj Singh, as the latter is still recuperating from his cancer treatment, and is confident that his side can repeat their earlier performances.

He said, “We have played well and have won three out of the four matches. We beat Mumbai and Chennai, but it is still early days. It is time for everyone to get back into form.”

If Pune are to defeat the Royal Challengers Bangalore on Tuesday, they must contain their batting contingent which includes the likes of Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli. Ganguly backed his bowlers to do wonders for his side as they have been
doing in the event.

“The fact that the last four T20 teams have not got past 160, even on good batting surfaces, that has shown that when we are bowling we can stop teams,” said Ganguly.
