IPL5: Royal Challengers Bangalore v Delhi Daredevils - Live Scores and Match Update – Challengers set up 158–run chase for Daredevils
The Royal Challengers Bangalore set the Delhi Daredevils a target of 158 in the 5th match of the Indian Premier League’s 5th edition, currently being played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.
The visitors won the toss and skipper Virender Sehwag elected to field. With the devastating Chris Gayle sitting out the match owing to an injury, Andrew McDonald (30 off 19 deliveries) and Cheteshwar Pujara (11) opened for the Challengers, and set up a
37-run opening stand.
Pujara was dismissed in the 4th over by Morne Morkel, who followed up his first scalp with yet another in the 6th over, as McDonald was caught, one-handed off his delivery by Doug Bracewell. This left the Challengers at 46 for 2.
The fiery Virat Kohli stepped onto the crease with high expectations riding on his shoulders after his recent impressive performances for the national side, but ran out of steam after just 8 runs, dismissed by Bracewell in the 8th over.
The 23-year-old was followed to the crease by the brilliant AB de Villiers, who anchored the innings with a stellar unbeaten 64 off 42 balls, smashing 6 fours and 2 sixes.
Saurabh Tiwary (dismissed by Glenn Maxwell on 1), skipper Daniel Vettori (run out by Bracewell and Maxwell on 3), and Harshal Patel (sent back to the pavilion on duck by Bracewell) were unable to be of much help to the South African, but Mayank Agarwal (16)
and Vinay Kumar (18) chipped in with useful contributions which saw their side reach 157 at the expense of 8 wickets by the end of 20 overs.
Kiwi pacer Bracewell remained the most effective bowler in the Daredevils’ arsenal, claiming 3 for 32, while Morkel took 2 for 30. Shahbaz Nadeem and Maxwell took one each, but Irfan Pathan was fairly disappointing, claiming zero wickets but conceding a
shocking 47 runs in 4 overs.
With the Daredevils set to open their innings with Aaron Finch and Sehwag, the competition looks to be a tough one. The home team will be fighting for a victory in their season opener, while their visitors, already having kicked their season off with a victory
against the Kolkata Knight Riders, will be looking to repeat the feat and move upwards on the points table.
