The 54-day-long season five of the money-spinning Indian Premier League reached its end last Sunday with Kolkata Knight Riders clinching their maiden IPL title by beating two-time IPL champs Chennai Super Kings in an enthralling final at Chepauk. Given below

Deserved winners:
A total of nine teams contested in the recently concluded fifth instalment of the Indian Premier League and at the end of 54 days, which saw 76 games played in all, the best team, Kolkata Knight Riders, lifted the trophy. Though the defending champions Chennai
Super Kings came up with some stunning performances in the last week, KKR were the deserving winners, given the consistency they showed, despite getting off to a tumultuous start, losing a couple of their initial games.

The West Indian all-rounder played three innings less than the Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Gautam Gambhir, who made it all the way to tournament final, yet the former finished 143 runs ahead of the KKR opener.
Purple cap of the season:
