West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has stated that the state’s government will be organizing a felicitation ceremony in honour of the newly crowned Indian Premier League 2012 champions, the Kolkata Knight Riders.
“This is a big achievement,” said Banerjee. “The team from the city has won and we are all proud of that. Shah Rukh (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319) is our brand ambassador and his team has won, so we want to felicitate the winners on behalf of the state government.”
The Knight Riders earned their maiden IPL title after a 5-wicket victory against the Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk on May 27.
The felicitation ceremony involves a road show, which is scheduled to begin at the Hazra Crossing in the south of the city, after which it will move on to the state secretariat before ending at the Eden Gardens stadium, where the ceremony is due to take
place.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JE-Taylor-c1682 has hit back at the West Indies Cricket Board, which accused him of unprofessionalism, saying no one can doubt his commitment to the sport.
WICB CEO Ernest Hilaire, in an interview with Sky TV, claimed that the 27-year-old (who was on contract) had been suffering a back injury, and was assigned to a rehab programme. However, Hilaire went on to point out that there had been
several difficulties in getting him to “commit to the programme and to apply himself.”
However, Taylor revealed that his back is completely cured, and though he has been looking to get back into the sport, WICB officials have not been in contact with him for over 18 months. The pacer last played for the national team in 2010, and was not included
in the Test line-up for the West Indies ongoing extended-overs series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013.
“As far as commitment is concerned towards cricket I don't think my efforts can ever be questioned,” http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 insisted. “… I am somebody who has always shown commitment towards cricket and my development.”
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umesh-Yadav-c94625 has expressed optimism regarding his team’s future, claiming that while they were unable to make it to the Indian Premier League 2012 final, they will be looking to compensate in the upcoming Champions League T20.
“… It's unfortunate that we couldn't go all the way. However, we will compensate this in the Champions League,” said Yadav.
He pointed out that the team had improved significantly, from finishing the 2011 tournament at the bottom of the table, to dominating the points table and finishing at number one in the league stage of the 2012 tournament.
The Daredevils were unable to carry the same form into the tournament playoffs, and lost both the first and second qualifier matches, against the Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings respectively.
