IPL5 final: Dhoni satisfied with team's performance vs. KKR - Cricket News Update
After failing to complete the hat-trick of IPL titles, the Chennai Super Kings' skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028, praised his team’s performance against a resurgent Kolkata Knight Riders side in the IPL-V final at home ground, MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk,
Chennai, on Sunday, May 27, 2012.
Playing their third successive IPL final, the Super Kings posted a competitive total of 190 for 3 in their stipulated 20 overs. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/M-Vijay-c1867 (32-ball 42) helped the side to set an imposing total
on the board.
Asked if he was satisfied with his side setting a 191-run target for the star-studded Kolkata batting line-up, Dhoni said, "Cricket is a game of plus ten and minus ten. It is always like that. Under the conditions, we batted well.”
“It was a bit slower in the first innings. Batsmen did a good job. Not to forget, we could have looked for 200 and ended up with 170,” he added further.
In reply, a belligerent Manvinder Bisla (89 off just 48 deliveries) pounded the Chennai bowlers right from the word go, taking the sting out of the defending champions. After removing Gambhir in the first over of KKR’s run chase, the CSK bowlers struggled
for a breakthrough for the next 14 overs, as Bisla and Kallis shared a 136-run stand for the second wicket, putting the tourists well on course to a five-wicket title clinching victory. The duo proved unstoppable as they cracked sensational, well-timed shots
all around the turf to leave the Chennai fielders in utter disbelief
Dhoni conceded that the bowlers were not hitting the right length.
“Our bowlers were not getting reverse swing,” said the CSK skipper. “Then it becomes easy for the fast bowlers to execute the wide yorkers. Still, I am happy with our performance," a calm and cool Dhoni reiterated.
The Ranchi wicketkeeper also had a word of praise for opposition batsmen Bisla and Kallis, for sharing a match-winning partnership.
"I thought the ball started coming on slightly better in the second half. Bisla and Kallis got the partnership KKR needed,” said Dhoni.
