IPhone, no contract?

I live in Canada and I would like to buy an iPhone, but I use the "Pay As You Go" feature. Like, the prepaid minutes. I tried the fido website, and I couldn't see how much it would cost without a contract. It is $199 with a 3 year contract for a 8GB. But I just want to know, could you buy an iPhone, without a contract in Canada? If so, how much?

Truly, iphone is a rip off but if u want to get it, i belive it is around 700$ CAN dollars
