i was wondering what the price would be if i were to buy it without the new contract since i already have a plan. and if i'm eligible for an upgrade will i be able to get it for the cheap 2 year contract price?

You have to buy it with a contract. There's no way to buy it without.

If you are eligible for upgrading, then you can get it for the $199 and $299 price (the contract would renew for 2 years)

I believe you will need a new plan.

I heard somewhere that current iPhone uses will have to have a new plan if they plan to buy the new iPhone 3G.

All I know is that the annual price (even if you have a plan) goes up 10 or 20

i read in an article on yahoo news that the 3G happens to be more expensive than the original because they bumped up the fees $10 a month or something.

i would research it, if i were you.
