Question:

IPhone problem...!?

Ever since my iphone got shipped to me in November 2007, I've been having one huge problem; my iphone will randomly shut off and won't turn back on! Yes it did have a full battery, it just shuts off. And the only way to turn it back on is plugging it into the computer, wall, or ipod/iphone alarm clock and/or music player, and it will turn on and be fine. But half the time it will turn off after awhile. But then a few months later, I would plug it in and the apple would pop up (iphone users would know what I'm talking about) and it would just fade away and take a couple tries to turn back on. But now it won't even turn on, the apple will pop up then fade all the time and it won't even attempt to turn on with the computer charger. So my iphone hasn't turned on in 2-3 weeks and I really need a phone! The only way it will turn on (and only for some time) is if it is on a ipod dock ot alarm clock, because a friend has one. Does anybody know what to do? Or has/had this problem? Please help!

  1. Hi,

From what you have described, it looks like a hardware damage. However, I could be wrong and it is highly possible for something to be wrong with the firmware. Here's the best thing you can do:

    1. Download this file from the following website:

    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/morein...

    2. Open iTunes and connect your iPhone

    3. On the home screen of your iPhone (where you find options to update and restore), press and hold Ctrl key and then click on the Restore button.

    4. Now, select the file you just downloaded from the above website

    5. After a few minutes, you should have a factory restored iPhone and also updated to firmware 1.1.4 (if you don't already have that)

These steps are not guaranteed for your particular problem, but I would give it a try if I were you.

If a full restore doesn't do the trick, I would have to conclude that something is wrong with the hardware itself and you might want to take it to the U.S Apple Store if you still have the receipt and warranty.
