I am looking into buying an iPod touch, or POSSIBLY the new iPhone 3G. I know that the iPod touch connects to the internet through wifi but i dont know if the iPhone does. if it doesnt, do you have to get like a internet service on your plan or something? because i dont really want to pay for internet, especially for an iPhone. Which is more worth it, an iPod touch, or the iPhone 3G?

  1. I think you should hold out a few more months.  The iPhone 3G should shake things up a bit, and prices for most of the iPods (including iPod Touch) should drop significantly (considering that there are iPods that cost as much as the phone w/ activation).  This is just in terms of price.

If you're looking for features like getting access to the internet (without having an open access point from your home,Mcdonald's,Starbucks, etc.), iPhone 3G would be what to go for (as the whole hype is around the 3G connection as well as the price and GPS feature).  You're only problem is that the iPhone 3G will cost you.  Not up front (as the $199 price tag w/ contract and activation is tempting), but with the overall billing.  The iPhone 3G is more expensive monthly than the original iPhone.

So, overall... if you want to go cheap, but look around for free internet access, get the iPod touch (but wait a few months until after the launch of the iPhone 3G, as the prices will drop on the touch).

If you don't mind paying for more and don't already have a cell phone (with a contract), go for the 3G.

  2. The 3G iPhone has both Wi-Fi and cellular internet.

Irregardless, the 3G iPhone requires the unlimited data plan ($30 per month added to the voice plan) just like all the other smart phones such as Blackberrys, Tilt, Palm, etc.

You have to pay for the unlimited data, though. It's the same with all smart phones.

Like any other phone, the iPhone's 3G will make it seem like you're always connected to Wi-Fi. The 3G is a faster internet than the current iPhone. If your area has 3G, and you can get a signal, then you can go on the internet at almost Wi-Fi speed.
