Question:

IPod or Zune? iTunes to Zune software?

I was looking up Zune players today and i'm really interested in the black 80gb Zune. I'd like to get one of them with an engraved back and some text too.

But, I already have an 80gb iPod Classic. I love my iPod, but I really want a Zune. My parents said that they'd take my iPod as a trade if they got me a Zune. Should I switch? And I have alot of songs on iTunes and I'd like to know if I could put them on the Zune software to move them on my Zune if I got one.

Help with both questions? Opinions welcome.

  1. Don't switch.  iTunes is too nice just to ditch it and go to a Zune.

  2. I think the ipod is much better just because thats my opinion. the software is much better with ipod. u can't take songs off itunes and put them anywhere else on ur computer if you bought it from the store because u buy them protected. if u used limewire it would just take a bunch of copying and pasting.

  3. Hello, My brother was going through trying to figure out which he wanted. I love Ipods and I don't know much about Zune. But I hear that yes you get unlimited songs and sharing and stuff like that. I think that all goes away with your subscription if you stop paying for it. I believe its a monthly payment. As far as being able to transfer music I don't think that would be problem. You could always burn or make a back up disc and re-download them onto a new program. GOOD LUCK.

  4. After using both, I would recommend ZUNE over iPod anytime. Zune has better screen and sound quality. Plus, zune can syn with your itunes to copy ur songs/videos.

  5. I have a Zune 80gb myself. It really is a great mp3 player and worthy of competition against the Ipod. I really think that it actually has some better features than the Ipod.

If you're into radio, then i guess it's a plus that the Zune 80gb has a radio feature. It doesn't have games like the ipod, but that can be easily remedied with it's XNA gaming. well, you have to apply it yourself to the Zune, but that hardly matters. From when it comes out of the box, it has more space available than the Ipod 80gb. How? Well, both devices dont have exactly 80gb of space. Some of that space is taken up by the firmware and such. But the Zune takes up less space with its' firmware. You probably already know about the touchpad and the 3.2" screen. not to mention the Zune has a glass screen which is very tough to scratch, compared to the Ipod's plastic screen.

Regarding your music collection, the Zune only uses it's own software (Zune Software) to sync music, just like Ipod does with itunes. However, there are ways to make the Zune able to sync with other music players. There are so many ways you can customize your software and Zune with mods that you won't be disappointed.

But if you want to stick to the normal way of using the Zune and its' software, then it's quite simple. It does take some getting used to, using the Zune and its' software, but with the right tips it's really easy. To import your music collection you just drag the folder with the music files to the Zune software and it will add everything, just like Itunes. You can also choose to monitor folders. I really like the navigation on the Zune, too. You can scroll through menus vertically or sideways, like using tabs.

I use this site for all my needs: www.zunescene.com

This site helped me figure out how to use the software and the Zune. On the right column some way down you will find the top 10 Zune tips which helped me get started out.

Really this seems like a lot to handle, but it's not. I'm sorry if it took so long to explain all of this about the Zune 80gb. It's just such a great device that I really got carried away and i wanted to clear some things out for you before you had to find all of this out yourself.

The choice is up to you to get the Zune 80gb. I really recommend it though. And it'll last, too, unlike the Ipod. Some of my friends' ipods have busted on them. However, in talking to an employee of Best Buy once, he said he went to a demonstration of the Zune once. The guy demonstrating even smacked the Zune around to prove its' durability, and to everyone's surprise it still looked and worked perfectly after all the abuse.

So, good luck in choosing your mp3 player!
