Question:

IQ Question.?

I was not born retarded and I was a good student up until a certain grade and was often on the Honor Roll and my teachers bragged on me for being smart. But around the fourth grade I started acting up and getting bad grades and I was diagnosed with ADD and OCD. In the 8th grade I was put in a few resource classes and I was also given an IQ test and I was scored in the 80-90 low average range. Now while I have had some learning difficulties I don't think I can be classified as mentally retarded and I shouldn't. I did graduate high school and take some college and I have learned a lot more since leaving school than I did when I was there. Could that 80-90 score on that IQ test be wrong??

  1. Well, an IQ score of 80 does not qualify you to be mentally retarded. When the dr gives you a IQ score it isnt a range, if they gave you a range then I would highly doubt the accuracy of it.

Mental retardation occurs when the brain gets injuried or a problem prevents it to develop properly. Persons with LD can be on honor roll.

It is really hard to really tell without more history and other information

  2. actually i think u have been under a lot of stress and that has made u weak.r u suffering from any kinda depression for a prolonged time? if yes i would recommend u to talk with some one who will encourage u.forget about the iq test and try to pogress further

  3. You are just suffering from learning disabilities which do not classify you as mentally retarded. You are absolutely fine but you just need some special privileges and help while learning since your disabilities so not allow you to learn at the same pace as that of your classmates.

Do not feel depressed and diffident. You are special as everyone is special. And all your disabilities can be overcome by proper training and use of special aids.

I hope you must have seen Taare zameen par. Its a tribute to you guys so cheer up.

  4. 80-90 on an IQ test is pretty good. thats about average. and an IQ test not only test your book smarts but your street smarts and your ability to solve mental puzzles. Maybe your book smart but not able to see puzzle the way some people can its no big deal

  5. Im 12 and my IQ  test was 142

  6. Your writing certainly does not sound like you are mentally retarded - but if 80-90 i low average, is it really considered retarded?

I'll tell you one thing though, I have scored everywhere from 123 to 175 on IQ tests as a kid, so that wide a range makes me wonder how accurate they can be.

If your ability to concentrate goes up and down like mine seems to, then I think how you are doing on a particular day could make a big difference.

If  you had any chemical changes in your brain that did not manifest when you were younger,  that may affect your ability to concentrate.

Another thought is if you were put on medication, I wonder if it could have some side effect? ( I am not a doctor and I am not saying dont take your meds. That is just one of a few thoughts)

  7. IQ tests are just tests. All they do is tell you how well you do the test. Geniuses can fail IQ tests and people who are not very smart can learn to ace them.  No one knows or cares what your IQ is - why should you???

    Relax and just be yourself.

  8. It sounds to me that there was the phenomenon called "examiner bias", which is what it is called when the test isn't administered properly for the conditions. It has nothing to do with "prejudice" against you. I seriously doubt your score reflected your true ability.

First of all, your written language suggests you do not have ADD. Kids with ADD miss "function words", i.e., prepositions, articles, and conjunctions, and don't punctuate well. You do not fit that mold.

Second, it is unlikely would have finished high school without special services if that score was accurate. Although 80-90 isn't quite considered "retarded", it is within the lowest range for "average". Kids with that score struggle to learn and retain information.

I also doubt you'd have  entered college without a higher IQ.

  9. Yes, this IQ score could certainly be wrong.  If you were diagnosed with ADHD, this condition has an effect on the way that you test.  An IQ test score is prone to all sorts of external influences and may be entirely different from one day to the next.  More important than an IQ score is your motivation and your ability to apply yourself to learning.  Learning disabilities can be overcome; it's just a little more difficult.  Rather than obsess about an IQ score, concentrate on your goals and your accomplishments so far.  Work for what you want out of life.  You sound like a winner to me.

  10. There are a lot of things that can influence the outcome of your IQ tests. Lack of sleep, mood, if you had enough to eat. So yes it is possible to have a false IQ outcome. Although you might also want to take in consideration.

That IQ test are to see how efficient you think along the line of the average person. BUT this does not take in to consideration, very intelligent people who think in different ways, which might be even more effective. Lateral thinkers if you will.

Dont take your IQ test too sirious, its not a source that is 100% reliable. But if it really bugs you, you could take another  test. Also note that the average intelligence is between 80-114  so to say your retarded wouldn't even be correct
