IR distance sensor,need a circuit,history about IR(infrared),characteristic,method of operation,application

create a distance sensor using IR (infrared) component as a sensor. i need a circuit for my project and some paper work,

where can i get info about this project.

Due to the property of infra-red waves as being easily absorbed and dispersed in a medium, I doubt the possibility of being able to use ir to measure distance. Most likely you will want to measure the distance between two objects by measuring the time it takes a wave to travel to and fro between those objects by reflection. To do this properly, the wave needs to have a good reflecting ability over a wide range of surfaces and ability to travel a long distance without being significantly diminished. Laser beams and radars easily fit this description, so you may want to try using one of them.
