Base yourself in Ennis and take day trips to Limerick, Cliffs of Maher, Durty Nelly's, Milltown Bay, etc.

Limerick is the nearest town to Shannon, but find out where not to go when you get there. Most of it is nice but, like most cities, there are places to avoid.

Shannon Airport is only a two-hour drive from County Kerry, one of the nicest and most scenic areas of Ireland. Killarney can be expensive, but there are small towns nearby that are more reasonable. You'll be in close proximity to the Ring of Kerry, the Dingle Peninsula, and the entire southwest coast.
