My co-workers and I are required to work away from our office and out in the field three days per week. On those days when we are out and buy lunch, can we claim those expenses on our annual 1040 tax form?

  1. You could brown bag it and eat in the park

  2. Meals purchased in conjunction with a trip that requires you to take lodging to rest (such as an overnight business trip, though it doesn't actually have to be overnight) are deductible.  If you are just working outside of your office for the day then meals are not deductible.

  3. No, you can't.  You'd eat if you were NOT in the field, and can bring lunch from home in a cooler if you want to.
