  1. You should be aware that if you are not going to file your tax return on time, you should file an extension by April 15.  This gives you until October 15th to file your tax return without getting a late filing penalty.

The IRS charges three fees - late filing penalties, underpayment penalties and interest penalites.  The extension lets the IRS know that for whatever reason, you can't file on time, and they waive the late filing penalty.

  2. You can't.  They say that they give you enough time to do you taxes.  If by any chance you do.  Please let me know.

  3. Some penalties can be waived if you can show reasonable cause for doing what generated the penalty.  It is up to you to show that you had a reasonable cause for filing late.  This means you exercised ordinary business care and prudence.  What is your excuse?

  4. You probably can't, unless you can show a very good reason why you didn't file on time and didn't request an extension.

  5. Did you file your tax return late?  If yes then you can not persuade them to remove the late filing penalty.  IF you have a good reason why you filed late (like you were in a coma) then IRS may remove the penalties.
