I had to mail in a amended tax return twice now, first time they said my schedule D wasn't there which was a lie or mistake by them because I triple checked it with my H&R Block agent so this time I used cerified mail to send it.

Anyway I do have a local IRS office nearby where I live will I get faster results there instead of mailing back and forth??

  1. I would not recommend hand delivering it to the local office. They would just have to forward it on to the office that requested the information. The IRS is too big and there are too many people working on too many things to try to short cut the system. Return the information to them at the address they gave to you.

  2. The IRS hires many elderly individuals to sort out paper tax returns simply because they don't have the personal to receive them in the 2-3 month window.    Most these helpers do a fine job, but some can get quite confused or tired and mess up a batch.

A word of advice is to E-file your return in the future.
