  1. As a hardcore gamer than, you know that your N wireless connection is max 300mb, right?

As a hardcore gamer, you know what the bandwidth demand of your games is, right?

As a hardcore gamer, you know that people are playing the same games you are playing, while only having 1.5mb DSL and 3mb cable internet connections, right?

I mean, you knew these things already, right?  Because as a hardcore gamer, you *should* already know these things.

So... is 16mb fast?  Well, it's obviously not as fast as 24mb.

  2. Unless the server you're gaming on is very close, you're not going to get full benefit of even 10mbps.  The speed is only that between you and Sky - after that you get the same speed as everyone else, which ranges from 10kbps to "sky's the limit", depending on the particular piece of cable the signal is going through at the moment.  Since the actual connection is only as fast as the *slowest* portion of it, and no one has any control of where the connection goes, except for the ends (you are one end, the server you connect to is the other), you get what you get.

My wife is a die-hard WoW player and we were fine on a 1.5mbps connection, as long as I didn't eat a lot of that bandwidth while she was playing.  With our 15mbps connection I can do whatever I want while she's playing (and using Skype, which is a bandwidth hog) and she can't tell.

  3. 16 Mb is far more then you need for gaming, people with DSL usually have the avg of 756 Kbps and will have the same connection speed as you. It will only matter if your downloading stuff at the same time as gaming or sharing your connection with a lot of other people

  4. Obviously faster is always better...I'd say try the 16Mbps because it's still much faster than most people - and you could always upgrade to 24Mbps in the future.  As someone else said, the 16Mbps/24Mbps is the peak between you and your ISP, the actual download/upload speed depends on the host server's connection, how many people are using it, and various other things - very rarely do you actually see the full connection used when accessing internet hosts.

I assume you're doing in-LAN gaming (and/or file-sharing) if you're installing dual-gigabyte ethernet - you can only go as fast as the slowest componant so it would only help for your LAN communication...otherwise regular ethernet and wireless-G is faster then the 16Mbps (or even 24Mbps) internet connection so it would be good enough for the internet.

    Hope this helps!
