  1. There was a time when individuality was common. I scuba'd alone, camped alone, kayaked and sailed alone. Now to be politiclly correct. The government says everything is against the law by yourself. 2 people are fine. Make sure your skill level is there, a message left with someone where you went and when you will be back. wear vest and helmets etc etc.

I used to run the rapids in a wet suit, right past the rafters. it's all good.Have fun

  2. Depends on where you are planning on going and what kind of rafts they are using - paddled or oared. Call the rafting company/outfitter and ask them - that's the only way to know. If' they require more people, they may have other small groups you can join with to fill up a boat. If not - see how many they require for a full boat, and get a couple friends to bring their moms too

  3. One thing to keep in mind is that the smaller the boat, the less sturdy it is.  If you are in a small two person boat, the chance of capsizing generally increases.  If you don't want to send your mom flying over the edge, I would either add people or stick to class I or II.

Great activity to do with your mom, and a wonderful bday present - have a blast!
