Question:

IS 911 the # for 911 or is it 9911?

I know this sounds like a dumb question but i really do not know.

obviously the # is 911, but what if u r smewehere where u have to dial a 9 first to dial out. Does that make it 9911?

  1. actually thats a good question......hmmm

    im pretty sur eit always works as 911. like, even if your not in service range you can still call 911 from a cell phone.  


  2. Dialing a "9", or any other number, before "9-1-1" will depend on the phone system in that specific building. Most places that require extra numbers post notices on the phones.

Some places that require you to dial a 9 to get an outside line require you to dial 9911 to reach 911.  Others, like my company require you to dial 3399 to reach 911.  Doesn't make much sense, but it is set up to avoid accidental calls to 911.  You'll have to check since each place is different.

  5. Dial 9 for the outside line, then dial 911..........

  6. If you need to dial 9 to get an outside line then you would dial 9-9-1-1.  Otherwise you would be making an internal call to extension 911.
