IS IT HARD TO BECOME A HM IN HE NAVY?

  1. from what i hear Corpsman is overmanned the only group that is undermanned is the 8427 Recon Corpsman. School for Corpsman is 14 weeks and like 6 weeks for Field Medical Tech school. Its kind of like EMT with general basic knowledge of other things also. Good Luck

  2. as a female it is IMPOSSIBLE to get HM.. and probably for next FY year too.  as a male, the waiting time to ship is pretty long..as much as 9 months.

    HM A school is 14 weeks at Great Lakes.  you will be taught all the basics plus a few extras that civilian EMTs learn.

You need an ASVAB score of VE+MK+GS=146 to qualify for the HM rate.  "A" school for the HM rate is at Great Lakes and is a little more than 3 months long.  You'll then go to your first command - usually a shore-based medical treatment facility, although you can get assigned to an operational unit.  Not everyone can become an HM, but it's not extraordinarily hard to get as a rate.
