  1. Watering during the afternoon is bad as others have mentioned.

Are you asking about the new LA water restrictions?

We are told not to water between 10 am and 4 pm, don't wash off your driveway (or anything else), and try to only do full wash loads.

Also, the Mayor is still pushing his crazy idea to use recycled toilet water as tap water (even though they water the freeway plants with drinking water).

And the head of the Department of Water and Power has promised to cut down his water use from 4 times the norm (which is what he uses now) to the normal norm.

The DWP rate increase will be on the ballot in November.

  2. Yes, it is true that you are not supposed to water plants in the afternoon especially in L.A. The heat of the sun will draw the water and burn the foliage. It is best to water in the early morning and not get the foliage wet.  Use your hose with no sprinkler and water the dirt around your plants. Just until the soil stops taking all the water in.

  3. You can and will probably have to water them in the afternoon especially in the L.A. heat, however you should not get the water on the leaves because it can scorch the leaves and cause brown spot. Soak the soil throughly in the morning, if the plant is wilting in the afternoon, soak the soil throughly again. I would suggest using a moisture control potting soil and using mulch around the base of the plant. Hope this helps and best of luck.

  4. You can soak the ground, but don't get water on the leaves. It may cause spotting and burning. The best time to water is when the sun is low or has gone down.

  5. it eally doesnt matter. the evening is the beat and the morning, but the aftenoon isne bad especially if the leaves arent wet and its not too hot out

  6. You don't want to wet the plant foliage because they will not dry in time which will promote fungus.  Water early in the day so the sun dries out the foliage, or just water at the base of the plants.
