  1. The AQHA used to not allow the registration of horses with blue eyes, white over the knees, white on the head that's wider than a line from the eyes to the nostrils, or white anywhere on the body of the horse.  If the white is minimal, they could be registered if they are gelded.  They're called "outcroppings" as the color genes are still in the gene pool and occasional crop out.  Nowadays, they can be registered QH but their papers are stamped with the notation that they have "Undesirable" characteristics - lumping the pinto gene in with such truly undesirable genes as HYPP.

These horses, though all QH, were the foundation of  the Paint registry.  Now, any horse with at least one Paint registered parent and either a Paint, QH or thoroughbred parent, whether colored or not, can be registered as a Paint.  Solid colored ones are entered in the breeding stock registry; paint colored ones into the regular registry.

So, a paint is not considered a quarter horse.

  2. I hope there are some quarter horse people on here to clarify for me, I only know some of this and I'm letting you know that up front.  Paint horses are generally considered a seperate breed, usually they show color, either tobiano or overo in pattern and are either quarter horse or thoroughbred in build.  However, there are breeding stock paint horses that are solid colored and they may be registered as paint horses as well, but as breeding stock.  I am not sure if quarter horses may be registered with color, ie pinto.  Your best bet to clarify would perhaps be the AQHA's website http://www.aqha.com/ or perhaps the APHA's website http://www.apha.com/.

  3. nope a paint horse means its a paint horse its just a paint thats a breed of horse

  4. Year's  ago they used to knock them in the head ,because a quarter horse was not to have color . Now there is a big thing about it.

So they made a separate breed out of them, No pintos They are colored horses with no reg parents ?

quarter horse assc, has allowed some color But to race they must be spade or gelded ,

The status on it now is, they are still trying to get them in

But they show under a color breed,, but both parents are of quarter horses blood ,,

    Hope that helped a bit

  5. Yes...it's called a paint because of it's coloring.
