  1. absolutely.

  2. It will be effective as long as you do not increase your calorie intake. To maximize fat burn, reduce your calorie intake and exercise at the same time. The fat will melt off. Just remember, it took a while for the fat to accumulate. It will also take a while for it to reduce.

Yes. But it depends on your speed & pace.

Check the link for calories burned.

  4. That much effort will burn 300 to 500 calories.  That's the equivalent of a Big Gulp soda.  Cut out the junk carbs and that will make even a greater difference.

  5. Yes it is.

  6. Many years ago I rode 11 miles one way to work.  I averaged around 15 to 17 miles per hour.  I was limited on the amount of food I could bring to work.  I lost 19 pounds that summer.

Commuting by bicycle is the best way to lose weight provided you do not dramatically increase you food intake.

I also had good results with Weight Watchers.  I used to ride my bicycle to the meetings.

That summer I lost 35 pounds.

  7. Yes. However, if your pedals are clip-less you will be burning a little bit less then with clips, simply because with clips, not only do you push down, you also pull back up. If I may add one suggestion it would be to get a heart rate monitor and keep your heart working at 70%-85% for maximum efficiency, otherwise you'll think your working hard, when you really aren't.
