IS college education considerd equal to university in America?

If i went to college in the united states... and wanted to be a doctor can i get the proper education in a college alone, or would I have to go a step higher and go to a university.. in other words is University considerd a higher form of education then College in the united states Or is College and university the SAME THING?

  1. Colleges (as in community college or junior college) are two year institutions which give you an Associates Degree. Universities are for Bachelor (4yr) and higher degrees. To be a doctor you have to go to medical school after earning your Bachelors Degree (earning your Master's Degree before medical school might be a better idea because these schools are competitive).

    When people talk, college and university are usually used as meaning the same thing. For example, someone might say "My child is going off to college next year." In that sentence college means university because people usually don't move away from home to attend a 2yr school.
